General Information

Acid Reflux is a common occurrence where the stomach contents travel up into the esophagus, often causing a burning sensation (heartburn).

GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) is a condition of frequent or severe acid reflux that causes damage or injury to the esophagus such as erosions or ulcers.

NERD (Non-Erosive Reflux Disease) is a form of GERD with the same symptoms of heartburn and acid reflux, but no visible damage to the esophageal lining.
Untreated acid reflux can progress to GERD or NERD and can cause complications such as esophageal inflammation, ulcers, and Barrett’s esophagus. Chronic symptoms can be disruptive to daily activities and quality of life and can put you at risk for other more serious health issues.
