General Information

Type 1 Diabetes is a lifelong autoimmune disease in which there is a high amount of sugar (glucose) in the blood. With Type 1 Diabetes, your pancreas does not make enough insulin. Without insulin, too much glucose stays in your blood and your body can’t use the food you eat for energy. Over time, high blood glucose can lead to serious problems in your heart, eyes, kidneys, nerves, gums and teeth.

Common symptoms include increased thirst and urination, extreme hunger, fatigue, headache, irritability and blurry vision.
